Volunteers

Support your local cooperative bookstore

… and become a volunteer!

People’s is only able to survive as an independent bookstore because of our cooperative structure. Membership fees help generate a small amount of capital and a community of supporters, but volunteers are the life blood of the store. Without volunteers the store would be unable to pay the labor costs associated with running the business.

YOU can volunteer and help ensure that People’s not only survives, but thrives, by donating your time. A volunteer shift could be two hours per month behind the counter or more, but we also need volunteers to help with various other projects, including in-store and out-of-store event planning, and promotion of these events, and promotion of the bookstore as an important local business.

  • Volunteer shifts at the front counter are available on the following days and times, and may be modified.
    • Mon 12–2, 2–4, 4–6
    • Tue 12–2, 2–4, 4–6
    • Wed 12–2, 2–4, 4–6
    • Thur 12–2, 2–4, 4–6
    • Fri 12–2, 2–4, 4–6
    • Sat 12–2, 2–4, 4–6
  • Volunteers can also help with promotion of the store by distributing leaflets, organizing in-store or out-of-store events, or recruiting other volunteers.
  • Volunteers are can also join a committee:
    • Book selection
    • Outreach & Education / Membership
    • Finance
    • Facilities
  • If you can volunteer for one of the above shifts, or would like more info about volunteer opportunities, please contact volunteer coordinator Brian Rothgery via Rothgery(at)gmail(dot)com
